Back Story:
On July 24, 2006—6 years ago—Andrew and I were hanging out with a group of friends at the Lone Peak parking lot. We were all getting ready for the Cedar Hills firework show to start. As we watched the fireworks, we found out through our friends that we both had crushes on each other! Woo hoo!! :). From that moment started a relationship of friendship and love that continued throughout all of high school, our freshman year of college, and two years of Andrew serving a mission in McAllen, Texas.
The Proposal:
On Saturday June 16, Andrew came to pick me up for a date night at Chili's. As we were driving out of my neighborhood he turned right, towards Alpine, instead of left, towards American Fork (where Chili's is). I told him that Chili's was the other way, and asked him where we were going. He tried to play it cool, but all he could do was laugh and smile and say that he was taking me to Chili's in Salt Lake. We both knew that wasn't true. :) I have never seen Andrew act so nervous and giggly.
We kept driving towards Traverse Mountain to a spot we call "the gulley". This is a spot up on the mountain that we used to go to in high school to talk, eat ice cream, and spend time together. As we got to our spot, Andrew prepared a little picnic with gluten-free pasta and crackers, and my favorite veggi, broccoli (that I had been DYING to eat :)). As we ate our little dinner, Andrew played songs on his iPhone from a playlist of 30 of "our songs" that are special to us. It was absolutely perfect :)!
After our picnic dinner, Andrew asked me if we wanted to go on a walk. We got back in the car and started driving somewhere else while listening to our songs. I kind of knew what was coming next :) :) (4 years earlier I had told Andrew he should propose where we had our first kiss, which happened to be in front of his old house in Highland, which happened to be in the direction we were heading)! Andrew pulled into his old neighborhood and parked down the street. I laughed to myself when he got out of the car and took a little while getting something out of the trunk.
Once he opened my door, we walked down the street to his old house. When we got there, we both knew what was coming, so Andrew said, "you know what would make this better would be if I had some roses... Hmm... I think I remember there being some hidden roses somewhere in the bushes when I used to live here. (we walked over to the bushes and Andrew picked up a bouquet of roses) Wow look! Afer all these years, they're still here..."
Then Andrew and I walked to the curb where we had our first kiss; he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! As he put the ring on my finger, we both could not believe what was happening. After 6 years. . .we were really finally engaged?!? What! It was so crazy to us both that it almost seemed fake :). We were so happy and excited that it was REAL!

Our spot where we had our first kiss and now where Andrew proposed! |
The ending to our perfect proposal:
This is where the back story comes in. Cedar Hills always does their fireworks in July, like they did 6 years ago when we first started liking each other. But for some reason this year they did their firework show a month earlier. It was on the night Andrew proposed to me. So after Andrew proposed, we drove over to the Lone Peak parking lot, sat in the exact spot we had 6 years earlier when we were fifteen years old, and watched the fireworks that started our relationship.

At the end of the night we went home to tell the exciting news to our families! We couldn't be happier!! :)
We can't wait to get married on August 2nd! It really is happening :) :)!!
